NBC Announces 2014 Earth Day River Clean Up Grants

As a result of last year’s successful grant program, the Narragansett Bay Commission (NBC) is pleased again to announce the availability of grant funding for 2014 Earth Day river cleanup and restoration projects. Funding for these Earth Day grants is being provided through the NBC Environmental Enforcement Fund and is intended to assist local organizations in purchasing supplies such as bags, gloves, dumpsters and small tools for environmental cleanup events.

The NBC will be accepting 2014 Earth Day applications for grants requests ranging from $250 up to $1,000 each and will be awarded to qualified applicants that will be hosting Earth Day cleanup projects focused around the rivers, streams, lakes and ponds located within the NBC service district. Projects must be completed no later than August 31, 2014. Application forms are provided on our website at www.narrabay.com. Click here to download the application form.

Applications, along with project description forms, will be accepted by the NBC through the close of business at 4:00pm on February 14, 2014. Applicants may request funding for any amount, up to the maximum of $1,000. There is NO match requirement, however all applications need to demonstrate how the event will promote environmental education and beautify or restore a portion of the upper Narragansett Bay watershed that is located within the NBC service area.

In an effort to provide grants to many organizations throughout the NBC service district, the NBC encourages potential applicants to partner with other organizations in their Earth Day event within the local community.

Please also note that the NBC has many years of experience organizing local river cleanups. Should you require guidance and assistance with the planning stages of your event, or if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the NBC’s Planning, Policy & Regulation office at 401-461-8848 ext. 391 or email Kimberly Kirwan at Kimberly.kirwan@narrabay.com.
