Nutrients Sampling

May 29, 2024

​Nutrient samples were collected from thirteen river stations and nine bay stations on May 29th. In the five days prior to sampling, there were 0.37 inches of precipitation recorded at T.F. Green. 

Among the river stations sampled, the highest total nitrogen (TN), total dissolved nitrogen (TDN), and dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) concentrations were observed at Ten Mile River @ Central Ave. (TN = 1,380 ppb, TDN = 1,340 ppb, DIN = 948 ppb). The lowest TN and TDN were observed at Moshassuck River @ Higginson Ave. (TN = 658 ppb, TDN = 590 ppb), while the lowest DIN was at Coles River @ Milford Rd. (DIN = 188.6 ppb, average of duplicates).

Among the bay stations sampled, the highest surface TN, TDN and DIN were observed at Phillipsdale Landing (TN = 1,070 ppb, TDN = 931 ppb, DIN = 648 ppb). The lowest surface TN were observed at Bullock Reach Buoy (TN = 698 ppb), while the lowest surface TDN and DIN were observed at Conimicut Point (TDN = 333 ppb, DIN = 165 ppb). Chlorophyll a concentrations at the surface bay stations averaged 1.67 μg/L overall with a maximum of 4.05 μg/L at the Edgewood Shoal.

The next scheduled sampling date is June 12, 2024.

May 14-15, 2024

​Nutrient samples were collected from seven river stations on May 15th and seven bay stations on May 14th. In the five days prior to sampling, there were 0.1 inches of precipitation recorded at T.F. Green. 

Among the river stations sampled, the highest total nitrogen (TN) and dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) concentrations were observed at Pawtuxet River @ Broad St. (TN = 855 ppb, DIN = 687 ppb), while the highest total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) were observed at Moshassuck River @ Footbridge at Mill St. (TDN = 907 ppb). The lowest TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Moshassuck River @ Higginson Ave. (TN = 525 ppb, TDN = 530 ppb, DIN = 308 ppb).

Among the bay stations sampled, the highest surface TN were observed at India Point Park (TN = 926 ppb), while the highest surface TDN and DIN were observed at Phillipsdale Landing (TDN = 804 ppb, DIN = 620 ppb). The lowest surface TN and TDN were observed at Conimicut Point (TN = 396 ppb, TDN = 160 ppb), while the lowest surface DIN was at Bullock Reach Buoy (DIN = 13 ppb). Chlorophyll a concentrations at the surface bay stations averaged 9.45 μg/L overall with a maximum of 27.95 μg/L at Pomham Rocks.

May 1, 2024

​Nutrient samples were collected from thirteen river stations on May 1st. In the five days prior to sampling, there were 0.13 inches of precipitation recorded at T.F. Green. 

Among the river stations sampled, the highest total nitrogen (TN), total dissolved nitrogen (TDN), and dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) concentrations were observed at Ten Mile River @ Central Ave (TN = 1,340 ppb, TDN = 1,260 ppb, DIN = 946.2 ppb). The lowest TN and TDN were observed at Moshassuck River @ Higginson (TN = 530 ppb, TDN = 436 ppb, each being duplicate samples taken at the site). The lowest DIN were observed at Coles River @ Milford Rd. (DIN = 58 ppb). 

Among the bay stations sampled, the highest surface TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Phillipsdale Landing (TN = 1,000 ppb, TDN = 836 ppb, DIN = 663 ppb). The lowest surface TN were observed at Conimicut Point (TN = 544 ppb), while lowest surface TDN and DIN were observed at Edgewood Shoal (TDN = 124 ppb, DIN = 17 ppb). Chlorophyll a concentrations at the surface bay stations averaged 19.62 μg/L overall with a maximum of 35.12 μg/L at the Bullock Reach Buoy.

The next scheduled sampling date is May 14, 2024.

April 16-17, 2024

​Nutrient samples were collected from seven river stations on April 17th and eight bay stations on April 16th. In the five days prior to sampling, there were 1.04 inches of precipitation recorded at T.F. Green. 

Among the river stations sampled, the highest total nitrogen (TN), and dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) concentrations were observed at Blackstone River @ Slater Mill (TN = 751 ppb, DIN = 571 ppb).  The highest total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) was observed at Blackstone River @ Bikepath Bridge (TDN = 787 ppb). The lowest TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Moshassuck River @ Higginson Ave. (TN = 483.5 ppb, TDN = 489 ppb, DIN = 291 ppb, all averaged with duplicates).

Among the bay stations sampled, the highest surface TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Phillipsdale Landing Surface (TN = 844 ppb, TDN = 678, and DIN = 545 ppb).  The lowest surface TN were at Pawtuxet Cove (TN = 633 ppb). The lowest surface TDN were observed at Bullock Reach Buoy (TDN = 402 ppb, average of duplicates). The lowest surface DIN were observed at Conimicut Point Surface (DIN = 301 ppb). Chlorophyll a concentrations at the surface bay stations averaged 2.39 μg/L overall with a maximum of 3.35 μg/L at the Conimicut Point.

The next scheduled sampling date is May 1, 2024.

April 3, 2024

Nutrient samples were collected from thirteen river stations on April 3rd. In the five days prior to sampling, there were 1.44 inches of precipitation recorded at T.F. Green. 

Among the river stations sampled, the highest total nitrogen (TN), total dissolved nitrogen (TDN), and dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) concentrations were observed at Ten Mile River @ Central Ave. (TN = 1,120 ppb, TDN = 1,150 ppb, DIN = 866 ppb). The lowest TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Coles River @ Milford Road (TN = 531 ppb, TDN = 494 ppb, DIN = 130 ppb).

The next scheduled sampling date is April 17, 2024.

March 20, 2024

​Nutrient samples were collected from seven river stations and eight bay stations on March 20th. All bay stations were sampled at the surface and bottom. In the five days prior to sampling, there were 0.2 inches of precipitation recorded at T.F. Green. 

Among the river stations sampled, the highest total nitrogen (TN) and total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) were observed at Blackstone River @ Bikepath Bridge (TN=906 ppb, TDN = 928 ppb), while the highest dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) was at the Blackstone River @ Slater Mill (DIN=735 ppb). The lowest TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Moshassuck River @ Higginson Ave (TN=559.5 ppb, TDN=567.5 ppb, DIN=401 ppb, all averaged with duplicates).

Among the bay stations sampled, the highest surface TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Phillipsdale Landing (TN = 1,080 ppb, TDN = 961 ppb, DIN = 765 ppb). The lowest surface TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at the Bullock Reach Buoy (TN = 460 ppb, TDN = 177 ppb, DIN = 73 ppb). Chlorophyll a concentrations at the surface bay stations averaged 6.22 μg/L overall with a maximum of 15.01 μg/L at the Bullock Reach Buoy.

March 6, 2024

​Nutrient samples were collected from fourteen river stations and eight bay stations on March 6th. Edgewood Shoal was sampled at the surface and bottom; all other bay stations were sampled at the surface only. In the five days prior to sampling, there were 3.16 inches of precipitation recorded at T.F. Green. 

Among the river stations sampled, the highest total nitrogen (TN), total dissolved nitrogen (TDN), and dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) concentrations were observed at Ten Mile River @ Central Ave. (TN = 1,500 ppb, TDN = 1,460 ppb, DIN = 1,304 ppb). The lowest TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Coles River @ Milford Road (TN = 512 ppb, TDN = 462 ppb, DIN = 166 ppb).

Among the bay stations sampled, the highest surface TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Phillipsdale Landing (TN = 1,250 ppb, TDN = 929 ppb, DIN=786 ppb). The lowest surface TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Conimicut Point (TN = 786 ppb, TDN = 389 ppb, DIN=315 ppb. Chlorophyll a concentrations at the surface bay stations averaged 1.90 μg/L overall with a maximum of 4.83 μg/L at the Bullock Reach Buoy.

The next scheduled sampling date is March 20, 2024.

February 21, 2024

Nutrient samples were collected from seven river stations on February 21st. In the five days prior to sampling, there were 0.05 inches of precipitation recorded at T.F. Green. 

Among the stations sampled, the highest total nitrogen (TN), total dissolved nitrogen (TDN), and dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) concentrations were observed at Pawtuxet River @ Broad St (TN = 1,280 ppb, TDN = 1,250 ppb, DIN = 1,100 ppb, average of duplicates). The lowest TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Moshassuck River @ Higginson Ave. (TN = 722 ppb, TDN = 676 ppb, DIN = 561 ppb, average of duplicates).

The next scheduled sampling date is March 6, 2024.​

February 7, 2024

Nutrient samples were collected from 14 river stations on February 7th. There was no precipitation recorded at T.F. Green in the five days prior to sampling

Among the stations sampled, the highest total nitrogen (TN), total dissolved nitrogen (TDN), and dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) concentrations were observed at Ten Mile River @ Central Ave (TN = 1,800 ppb, TDN = 1,840 ppb, DIN = 1,780 ppb). The lowest TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Coles River @ Milford Rd (TN = 635 ppb, TDN = 582 ppb, DIN = 363 ppb).

The next scheduled sampling date is February 21, 2024.​

January 24, 2024

Nutrient samples were collected from seven river stations on January 24th. In the five days prior to sampling and the morning of, there were 0.2 inches of precipitation recorded at T.F. Green. 

Among the stations sampled, the highest total nitrogen (TN) and total dissolved nitrogen (TDN) concentrations were observed at Blackstone River @ Slater Mill (TN = 1,030 ppb, TDN = 961 ppb); the highest dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN) was at Blackstone River @ Stateline (850 ppb). The lowest TN, TDN, and DIN were observed at Moshassuck River @ Higginson Ave. (TN = 708 ppb, TDN = 656 ppb, DIN = 524 ppb).
