Earth Day River Clean Up Postponed
Due to safety concerns resulting from the recent flooding, the Narragansett Bay Commission has postponed its annual Earth Day clean up of the Woonasquatucket River. Check this site for news on the new date.
The Narragansett Bay Commission began annual volunteer river clean ups in 2002, as a part of Chairman Vincent Mesolella's River Restoration Initiative. Since that time, NBC and other community volunteers have removed thousands of pounds of debris from the river bed and banks, including over 1000 tires, hundreds of discarded shopping carts, and other items such as home heating tanks, mattresses, and two refrigerators.
